I thank the Committee for their confidence in me to judge the Bearded Collie Club Spring Open Show 2013. Congratulations must go to my two ring stewards for organising the ring so efficiently.
In watching at many shows throughout the years I am aware of the changing shape of prize winners, so I was glad to lay my hands on a large number of current show Beardies. With the present conflict and discussions that our breed is getting short in the leg, I felt the problem arises from correct scapular, then short upper arm making the elbow joint higher on the rib giving a false impression of depth of rib. In consequence the dog in free stand the rear is too high and has to be placed to give a level topline, resulting on the move a lot of knitting, particularly in the bitches. I tried not to discount an exhibit with a single fault where their overall quality was evident.
My BVB moved more freely later in the day after BIS and RBIS Challenge, as stated in her critique. I was happy to then award her BV.

PUPPY DOG
1 Harrison's MALANDEX XCEPTIONAL LOVE AT ANFRANJO - One day off one year old. Dark eye-catching dog with scissor bite, soft expression from dark eye. Everything in the right place, he has time to get a little bigger. Moved and handled well.
2 Dodgson's CALDERMIST RAMROD - Another dark dog, good length of leg, front pasterns a little weak. Bottom jaw needs to mature, his large mane gives the impression of a stuffy neck, it is not.

JUNIOR DOG
1 Jay's IN VOGUE ISLAND HIGH SOCIETY AT TALRAZ - Fifteen months old - as I would expect at this age. Needs to mature to complement his good proportions, strong in every way. Correct bite.
2 Fiedler's ALISTAIR'S READY MADE FOR MALARKEY JW - Strong dog, appears a little short in leg. Good pasterns front & aft correct.

YEARLING DOG
1 Felton/Barton's - LABOOSHAR LORD WELLINGTON - True dog of correct proportions. Strong head, well muscled, Eye to match coat. Correct bite.
2 Kochanowski's THORNSKY MOONDANCE - Good strong coat coming, pleasant expression with kind eye. Still a bit loose on the move.
