Breed Classes - Judge: Mr Alan Hosie

May I start by thanking the members for giving me the wonderful opportunity to judge their Open Show. As soon as I arrived members of the Committee looked after me so well and ran a really well organised show. The breed ring was well set out and large enough to properly gauge movement. Indeed, a KC Field Officer visited on the day putting more pressure on the Committee but they took this in their stride and received an “excellent” grading. Well done!

A special thanks go to my stewards for their efficient assistance and forbearance throughout a long day! Finally, a big thank you to all exhibitors for bringing their dogs along on the day.

The overall quality of exhibits was good but there were a number of worrying trends that we should be aware of for future breeding plans. I found a number of dogs with longer hocks than is desirable. There was a lack of fore-chest in a number of dogs. Also, there does seem to be a growing number of dogs where the movement is not of the soundness it once was as exhibited by a lack of front extension and effortless drive. On a positive note I found that mouths were almost wholly correct scissor bite, length, depth and shape of rib was good and the temperaments were sound.

Judge's Report - Fun Obedience

I would like to thank you and your committee for inviting myself and Ruth to judge Fun Obedience at your Open Show on 6th April. The show was extremely well run with little waiting for competitors to compete.

In the first class – Starters – first place was Sue Jones with Max closely followed in second place by Lyn Dumbrell with Duncon. She and Duncon worked a really nice round but unfortunately Duncon broke his sit-stay. In third place, Karen Axford with Bolly competing for the first time, did a credible round with nice recall and excellent stays.

The Triers class was won by Mrs Richards with Holly. Heelwork was nicely performed on a loose lead let down a little by crooked sits on the halt but overall very good. In second place Ann Boswell with Quince performed another nice round again let down by bad sits on coming to a halt. Karen Axford and Bolly took third place and tried hard but first time competing is hard – the potential was there. In fourth place, Shirley Hinchcliffe and Baggins worked hard through the round but unfortunately Baggins decided the down-stay was not for him!

The third class – Hopefuls – was won by Anne Boswell with Quince. Anne tended to lose Quince a little on the turns when doing heelfree but as in the previous class his stays were superb. Second place went to Karen Axford and Bolly. All credit to them considering it was their first time competing.

Regardless of overall positions, I would like to congratulate all the competitors and their dogs for their willingness to compete and the enthusiasm with which they did it.

Jeannie Cup winner – Mrs Frances Richards with Holly
Marklanze Trophy winner – Anne Boswell with Quince
