Dogs
Minor Puppy Dog (3, 1)
1st. Moir's Winaria Wellington
What a promising quality 6 month puppy to start my day. Excellent substance, head proportions and good length of neck, firm back, nice rear angulation and moves steadily covering the ground with each step particularly with good drive, carrying his long tail low and holding a level topline, presented and handled beautifully and in a kind and sympathetic manner. Will watch this one's progress with interest. BPD and BPIS.
2nd. Steel & Wallace's Capelaw RaphaelThis lovely confident youngster made me smile, has all the makings of a very nice dog, attractive head, good pigment, correct dentition, decent neck, good width in front and length of body, well made rear and correct length of tail, just needs a little more ringcraft training to settle his performance down.
Puppy Dog (1, 0)
1st. Moir's Winaria Wellington (Mr D MOIR). Winner of MPD.
Junior Dog (2, 0)
1st.Cox's Braesnobel Salt N'Pepper.
Not flashy this one, balanced head, good pigmentation with large eyes that gave that typical soft and affectionate expression, OK shoulders, strong level topline, nice slope to croup with a low set tail, I'd like him a fraction longer in rib and when he settled, he lowers his head and tail in typical fashion on the move.
2nd.Kelly's Allachoy Sound Of Harris.
This one was certainly alert and lively. Difficult to see those typical arched brows under his predominantly white coat on head, correct dentition, strong muzzle, straight front, chest deep and decent ribbing, a little square in the croup. His rather exuberant attitude was unfortunately unsettling others in this class and the next class. Difficult to assess him properly on the move.
Yearling Dog (4, 0)
1st.Handley's Bargemon Brigadoon At Barkenbear JW His thick woolly coat was presented in very good condition, he presents a pleasing outline in profile which appears balanced, he has an attractive head with good length of foreface, well arched brows and well placed eyes, he looked very eye catching on the move, lowering his head and tail and moving freely with a good stride and holding a level topline. He has some time to reach full maturity but I am sure will title.
2nd.Ayrton's Aoibh Drummer Boy JW
This boy had 'drummed' his coat away but he was fit and conditioned and moved with good extension from the rear and lowered his head and tail correctly, straight front with good width, medium length of neck, strong backline, good ribbing, the darkest of pigmentation on nose and with moderate stop. I'm being picky but I'd like a fraction more enthusiasm from him.
3rd.Gault's Osmart Tzara's Midnite Jazz
Novice Dog (2, 0)
1st.Cox's Braesnobel Salt N'Pepper
1st in JD.
2nd. Walker's Allachoy Dances with Wolves Presented in good harsh coat which was of good length and clean, and correct weight over the ribs, I'd like him longer though in rib as he appears a little compact, well muscled rear, good width of front, cheeky and alert expression, he loved the movement part, perhaps a little too much so carrying his tail rather high and it was unsettling his topline.
Graduate Dog (6, 0)
1st.Handley's Bargemon Brigadoon At Barkenbear 1st in YD.
2nd. Ryan's Dychix Invictus For Razkal I liked this dog more after I put my hands on him, he particularly appeals for type, substance, typical head, kind eye and strong muzzle, straight front, strong backline, a touch squarer over the croup and a little short in ribbing but he moves with an effortless and smooth stride, barely lifting his feet off the ground while carrying a low head and tail.
3rd. Kirby's Finesk The Dancing Master
Post Graduate Dog (3, 0)
1st. Gill & Hosie's Burnhock Superior Diamond For GillaberThis brown male just oozed quality from the tip of his nose to his tail, his head is in proportion and his eyes tone well with his coat colour and framed by well arched eyebrows, he has a good lay back of shoulder and nice return of upper arm, good ribbing, strong loin, firm quarters, long low set tail and he just looked glorious moving around the ring in full extension with plenty of reach and drive and maintaining a firm topline and a low carried tail. BD and RBIS.
2nd. Kuz's Duncannas Special Edition At Strufingill JW Another handsome male who I can see why he has his JW, masculine head with well-placed eyes, dark pigmentation, a touch longer in muzzle than I'd like, strong neck, moves in a very economical and smooth fashion holding a level topline and lowering head and tail, appears to run a fraction narrow from behind, presented and handled very well.
3rd. Peart's Kilfinan Mister Moonlight For Talluarchy
Limit Dog (1, 0)
1st. Savage & McLean's Talraz Comic Relief At Canaich JW Good size and workmanlike, he isn't flashy but nicely made, decent shoulder, level back, good ribbing, tail could be a fraction longer, moves with efficient reach and drive and dropping his head and correct low tail carriage.
Open Dog (1, 0)
1st. Robertson's Arranbrae Laird Of Quothquan JW I can see why he has his JW, mature and quality masculine dog with pleasing markings, with a lot to like, presents a balanced side profile, his head is in proportion to body, muzzle of good length, good reach of neck, strong body, good rear quarters and straight and short hocks, powers round the ring with a typical long-reaching stride.
Veteran Dog (3, 0)
This was a good class, as you would expect from this breed.1st. Gamble's Talraz Look To The Future At Capelaw SHCM This male is one of those that you really need to get your hands on to appreciate his virtues, he's in super hard condition and of correct weight over the ribs, in good harsh coat of long length, carries an extremely attractive headpiece which has good breadth to skull and balanced foreface, eyes set wide apart and are dark matching coat colour, he has a good depth of chest, good width of front, good lay back of shoulder and return of upper arm, strong topline, strong rear quarters with adequate bend of stifle, his tail is set on low and is long, he has an efficient long reaching smooth stride. I'd like to have seen him at his full natural gaiting speed so this cost him BD. RBD.
2nd. Handley's Invercoyle Caperdonich At Barkenbear A little bit finer all over but his coat was well presented and in good order, alert expression, good shoulder , well sprung ribs, good rear angulation, long tail and moved accurately in all directions, handled very well.
3rd. Glasgow's JB De Chester At Gallus
Scottish Bred Dog (3, 0)
1st. Robertson's Arranbrae Laird Of Quothquan JW Also 1st in Open.
2nd. Kirby's Finesk The Dancing Master
Was 3rd in GD. A top size boy with a good length of body and plenty of daylight. He moved better in this class. His front is not quite as straight as others.
3rd. Buchanan-Hislop's Ciopar Celtic Cherokee
Bitches
Minor Puppy Bitch (1, 0)
1st. Gamble's Capelaw Celeste Impressive quality and confident feminine pup who perhaps unusually naturally free-stands which shows off her shape and her good construction. She is very expressive with her ears, lifting them from the base, has a real air of assurance when moving and has a long effortless and smooth stride - she's accurate out and back too. One for the future!
Puppy Bitch (2, 1)
1st. Basnikova Muza Od Plzenskeho Lotra Gallus (imp Cze) (Mrs A M GLASGOW). Couldn't believe my luck when this stunning girl walked into the ring - there i was already thinking I had already judged 3 very promising puppies and then this glamour girl walks in as if she's been showing for 7 years! So well schooled but with plenty of go about her, hope she grows on too. Particularly pretty in head, firm neck, level topline, long and low set tail. Another very promising youngster who I shall watch with interest. BPB.
Junior Bitch (1, 0)
1st. Basnikova Muza Od Plzenskeho Lotra Gallus (imp Cze) (Mrs A M GLASGOW). Winner of previous class.
Yearling Bitch - No entries
Novice Bitch (1, 0)
1st. Gamble's Capelaw Celeste Was 1st in MPB.
Graduate Bitch (4, 1)
1st. Glasgow's Basnikova Muza Od Plzenskeho Lotra Gallus (imp Cze) 1st in PB.
2nd. Robertson's Heather Mist Miss Tillietudlem At Quothquan (imp Swe) Appears a little longer in muzzle, good width of front, strong level backline, good tail set, moderate rear angulation, holds a nice shape on the move where lowers head with her back, needs a touch more weight over the rib.
3rd. Kirby's Finesk Bratach Bana
Post Graduate Bitch (2, 1)
1st. Ayrton's Aoibh Fiery Flamenco JW Nice honest bitch with a harsh coat which doesn't distract from her profile shape, free and easy mover, love how she free-stands naturally four square, expressive in head and appears alert and intelligent. She holds a firm topline as she moves round the ring and drives from the rear.
Limit Bitch (3, 0)
1st. Glasgow's Malandex Xpat's Gem At Gallus JW Up until this point I had judged some quality dogs but when I first saw this girl in the stack and on the go around she instantly ticked all my boxes. She is glamorous but I could still see her working. I loved her overall balance and proportions, size and shape, her harsh long straight coat just enhanced the picture, her head is broad with a flat skull and an equal length of muzzle, excellent strong pigmentation on nose and eye rims and brown eye colour tones in with coat colour. I know it's a cliché but I could watch her low ground covering long powerful effortless stride all day long and I kept thinking about her long after the class! When she came back into the challenge, there was nothing else that filled my eye like she did. I was told afterwards by several exhibitors that she is on 2CCs - doesn't surprise me at all.... hope she doesn't have to wait too long. BB and BIS.
2nd. Jemmett's Philemon Keltic Magic For Westbere (imp Deu) An honest girl of good size and I bet she can be overlooked due to her lack of white markings, but she is great for make and shape, she was a little hesitant when I went over her on the day - could've been due to the car revving nearby but she was an impressive efficient mover holding her head and tail low with a firm topline and was accurate out and back. Just would like to see a more confident performance to push her higher places.
3rd. Kirby's Finesk Border Riever
Open Bitch (3, 1)
1st. Cook's Arranbrae Spanish Eyes Balanced in profile but would like a little bit more length of rib but attractive head which was well proportioned and well set eyes of good shape, eyebrows were well defined, she strode round the ring with an air of grace and a low set tail to win this class.
2nd. Muir's Douglasdale Dream Island In glorious and abundant coat and full of breed type, she was a happy and confident dog but carrying far too much weight over the ribs which affected her topline and movement.
Veteran Bitch (3, 0)
1st. Savage & McLean's Clovabrae Solar Flair SHCM JW Judged this one a few years ago and liked her then and she has matured even further. Pleased to see she wasn't carrying as much weight today but probably could lose a touch more to get her into top honours! So sound and fluid on the move, she will always catch my eye for sheer showmanship, honesty, substance, size and effortless movement!
2nd. Steel's Invercoyle Erdradour My word - this lady was carrying a huge coat but it was groomed to perfection and still had that rustic edge. Beautiful markings and she really does drop her head and tail when she moves round.
3rd. Buchanan-Hislop's Ciopar Celtic Mine Alone
Scottish Bred Bitch (3, 1)
1st. Buchanan-Hislop's Ciopar Celtic Mine Alone This lady was 3rd in the veteran class and carrying far too much weight for me, straight front, expressive deep brown eyes, her head appears rather small compared to her body, she moves in typical Beardie fashion, moving correctly by dropping her head and tail whilst striding out.
2nd. Muir's Douglasdale Dream Island 2nd in OB.
Special Champion (1, 0)
1st. Gill & Hossie's Ch Malandex French Xpectation for Gillaber JW. What a treat to go over this fine exhibit. The same breeder as my eventual BIS winner and I can see many of the same qualities, stunning head with good breadth to skull, well arched eyebrows, well placed large eyes dark in colour and with soft expression, double coat was harsh, thick and with a soft undercoat and even though of good length didn't distract me from a beautiful shape and outline, she simply glided round the ring in all directions with an accurate and effortless stride. Definitely worthy of her title.
