David Cavill (Toveri)
I began judging in 1972 and first judged Beardies in 1981. I have judged over one hundred classes of the breed. During the 1990s I took part in several Beardie Training days. It is a breed which has always greatly appealed to me.
I am passed for tickets for: Rottweilers, Basenjis, Border Collies, Belgian Shepherd Dogs (T, G ), Samoyeds, Alaskan Malamutes, Dobermanns, Tibetan Terriers, Norwegian Buhunds, Schipperkes, Keeshonds, Japanese Spitz, Japanese Akitas, Swedish Vallhunds, Finnish Spitz, Siberian Huskies, German Spitz (Klein), German Spitz (Mittel), Shiba Inu and Leonbergers and have been invited to give tickets in Lancashire Heelers, Shih Tzu and the Utility Group.
I am passed for BIS and Working and Pastoral Groups at championship shows in the UK and Groups 1, 2 & 5 FCI.
I have been on the A3 list of SCBCC for over fifteen years.
I have also judged in Hong Kong, Thailand, Africa, France, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Malta, Luxembourg, Belgium, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and Finland
Kathleen Delaney (Arranbrae).
I have owned and shown Beardies since 1979 purely and have bred/owned 9 Stud book qualifiers including 1 CC, 3 RCC, and 1 Junior Warrant winner.
My daughter Genna was an avid junior handler for many years winning KCJO Working Group Crufts 98 with A. Gift Wrapped. Two of his litter sisters have both won the prestigious Top Brood Bitch Trophy.
I have judged 7 times, twice at Club shows, 4 of my BOB winners later becoming Champions. I spent a number of years on the BCCS committee and have recently completed their breed judging seminar.
Paul Heller (Buckbean)
I first owned a Beardie in 1972 and showed and bred with some success for many years.
I have judged Beardies regularly at Open Show level since the early 1970’s
At my latest judging appointment my BOB went on to be overall Best in Show.
I have also judged OES and Rough Collies at Open Show level, as well as judging all breeds at Exemption Shows.
In addition to the above breeds my interest also extends to Greyhounds, which I have raced with much success.
Rodney Oldham (Towmena)
My first Chow Anna Wong of Wang Li (born 1965) was purchased with the show ring in mind and soon after the Towmena affix was registered.
Involvement at that time was all about trying to breed something better and judging was never thought about. A lot of stewarding was carried out and contact with other breeds meant access to endless information and experience to be gained.
Notable records include: first Champion made up in 1974, first CCs awarded in 1976, bred & campaigned Chow Bitch CC record holder T Impudent Miss (40 CCs), imported as a puppy Ch Fort Knox Here’s The Tiger at Towmena who won 20+ CCs and became a dominant sire, made up a further three Champions plus, at the time of writing, the 2006 born Ch T In the Frame with 20CCs & 6 res CCs. He also achieved my first ever BIS at an all breeds Championship Show in the summer of 2008 at SWKA and along the way has notched up a RBIS, 7 Groups plus numerous other placings. Just two Chows reside at Towmena now due to judging commitments etc.
Other breeds have been kept/bred including Pekingese, Airedale Terriers, Griffons, Lakeland Terrier and have also lived alongside such other breeds as Labradors, Bouvier des Flandres and Tibetan Terriers and a Champion made up in the latter. All very useful experiences enabling a more rounded view of dogs in general.
I have always been interested in other breeds and enjoy ‘ringside judging’ as so much can be learnt from observing others and dialogue with knowledgeable breeders. I first judged Beardie classes in 1996.
I am currently approved to award CCs in 21 Breeds plus B.I.S., the Utility and Pastoral Groups.
Mary Pepper (Megamaree)
I obtained my first pet Beardie some 19 years ago when I was a Committee member of a large dog training and agility Club. As a qualified Obedience instructor I quickly realised how wonderfully intelligent the Beardie was and also how single minded they can be.
My first show girl was acquired some 5 years later and it was from her that I started to breed my own Beardies. From a number of successful litters I have bred 2 dogs which have qualified for the KC Stud Book
My first Open Show appointment was in 2001 and I have since judged a further 8 shows. During this time I have also stewarded at a number of shows.
I have attended and passed a number of seminars on both conformation and movement.
If elected to judge I will give careful and honest opinion of those dogs shown.
Tricia Pool (Benastric)
I have owned Beardies since 1973 & showed since 1987 during which time gaining 2 C.C.s & 2 Res.C.C.s with Ch.Beardievale Village Gossip C D Ex. (the only UK Ch. Bearded Collie with a working trial qualification) & now own his great nephew. I have also shown Ch. Charncroft Copper Rose to 1 C.C., 1 Res.C.C. & a Working Group & now co- own her daughter who has a Res. C.C
I have been a committee member of the SCBCC for 6 years, 3 of which as Education Officer & during that time I introduced the SCBCC sheep herding tests.
I have attended a NEBCC Judges Training day & stewarded at 3 Ch. Shows & 2 club open shows, passed a KC exam on Requirements of a dog show judge & attended a KC seminar on Conformation & Movement.
I have been a Working Test Judge for many years & am on the show judging list of the SCBCC,BCC,NEBCC & the BCC of Scotland & have Judged at the SCBCC & BCC of Scotland Open Shows.
A deep fascination with our breeds’ working heritage & the structure required to enable them to carry out that work led me to start judging in 1994 & I have now judged 234 dogs.
Mrs Evaline Poore (Bluelyn)
I have owned Beardies since 1972 when we lived in Scotland, I bought one as a pet but in 1974 I bought a second, a Beardie bitch. I bred her in 1977 and kept a blue dog – Roylynne Honey’s Blue Boy who I started showing in 1979. He gained his stud book number in 1980 at Bournemouth and I have been showing ever since
I got my second bitch in 1983, bred her and kept a boy – Bluelyn Mischievous Hector and gained his Stud Book number.
I then got a third bitch, Nicola, Azeta’s Xpression – a blue who I also showed.
I am showing Sammara Over the Border at Bluelyn – Rory.
I was also a committee member of S. West of England & S Wales Branch of the BCC from 1993 until 2007 when I stood down.
I have been judging at Open show level since 1995 and I judged MBCC Open show.
I also judge Border Collies, Rough Collies & Shetland Sheepdogs.
George Pope (Medmerry)
My love affair with Beardies began in 1986 when, together with my wife Sue, we brought home our first puppy from Adrianne Noyes.
We bred our first litter in 1989, we kept a blue bitch from this litter and our show career began.
Two more bitches came to live with us from Maureen Betts and Lesley Tomlinson and these two bitches are the foundation for our Beardies today.
We have bred 7 litters to date, including a CC winner, a JW winner and several stud book entries.
I started judging our wonderful breed in 1996 and have judged 169 Beardies to date. I have also judged Rough Collies, Border Collies, Briards, OES, Shelties, Corgis, Swedish Valhunds, Newfoundlands and GSDs.
I’ve always endeavoured to help with the welfare of our breed, with fundraising and helping out with Southern Beardie Aid.
I have served on SCBCC committee and I also ran a successful ringcraft club for 15 years.
I am currently Chief Steward & Vice-Chairman of Worthing Canine Society, positions I have held for several years.
I would be honoured if I were chosen by the members to judge the Club Open show.
Ellen Sullivan (Navillus)
My first Bearded Collie arrived in 1981 and I have shared my life with nine Beardies to date. I started showing the same year and I got a real buzz from it, and still do today.
In 1998, after a while away from showing I started looking for a Beardie to show and Medmerry Carousel, (Rio), came along; shortly after the Navillus affix was born. Rio taught me a lot about Beardies and produced two Stud Book Number winners for me. Navillus now has five SBN’s, all from descendents of my lovely Rio.
I judged for the first time in 1990 at an Exemption Show, and my first Open Show came in 2002. I have learnt something new from every judging appointment I have undertaken, and I have no plans to stop learning any time soon!
Since 2002 I have served on the Bearded Collie Club Committee, and have been the Club’s Show Secretary since 2004. In 2008 I became Editor of the Bearded Collie Club Yearbook. I believe this is my way of giving something back to a breed which has brought me such pleasure and happiness, and I hope be able to continue ‘giving back’ for many years to come.
It would be the greatest honour to judge the Bearded Collie Club’s Open Show in 2012; and I would carry out this responsibility with honesty and integrity, and to the very best of my ability, keeping our breed’s purpose and functionality in mind.
