JBLC Update June 2015
- CEA - In discussion with Tom Lewis (a geneticist at the KC) to re-analyze the statistics, in order for us to get a truer picture of incidence of CEA in the breed, there is a need for further testing, etc. until a few more prominent kennels have had dogs tested.
- Continue to encourage members to CEA test, look at further CEA clinics and strongly encourage all members to get their Beardies eye tested before breeding under the BVA/KC scheme as well as knowing their CEA status – if any carriers are bred from then all progeny to be tested and results made available.
- As per the recent JBLC Statement, a ‘Health Seminar’ is planned to be held early September to consider AI disease and breeding population etc. more info to follow.
- A summary of the Health Survey is now available on Club websites/publications together with a link to the full survey results. The KC have also been sent a copy.
- We will continue to advertise, promote and facilitate the DNA Data Bank for Bearded Collies.
- Encourage members to send elbow x-rays off to the BVA for scoring. Ask any members that have scored prior to the KC scheme to share their results.
- Encourage our vets to join VetCompass.
- The Cohort Study proposed by Wendy and Ken Hines was discussed and agreed that further advice would be sought from the Kennel Club Geneticist and the Animal Health Trust.
