At our Diamond Jubilee weekend, we ran Rally Obedience and Working Test training and testing on Monday 7th September. Eleven people and dogs turned up to take a test and several more had a go at Rally Obedience under the capable guidance of Maria Cox. Thank you to Jan Lemon for helping with paper work and to Ron McCawley who helped to judge.

We can only help owners and their dogs to a basic level with training for these tests and it always shows when a handler has practised or attended some lessons before attempting a test. Well done to every successful entrant and better luck next time to everyone who tried. It's lovely to watch a bond build up between dog and handler in this way.

Many thanks to the Midland Branch for inviting Steve and I to judge Working Tests at the Inkberrow event. We had a great time catching up with all the people we had not seen for a while. Thanks too to Phyl Crump, efficient as ever with the paperwork.

11 tests taken in all with a good spread over the grades. We decided that Steve would judge Primary and Intermediate tests and I would judge the Juniors and Seniors.

Primary (5 entries - 4 passes)

Promising set of Primary tests, all capable of going further - only dog who failed couldn't resist the picnic in the food refusal test!

Intermediate (3 entries - 0 passes)

One of the stars of the day was Nancy who sailed through her Primary and Junior tests and it was only inexperience with retrieving a dumbell that prevented an Intermediate pass.

Steve Horne

Junior (2 entries - 1 pass)

As Steve has already said John Stanbridge's Nancy was one of the stars of the day, sailing through the junior test even though she had never jumped before. Very unlucky not to get her Intermediate Test too, failing only on retrieve with a borrowed dumbbell (mine), which was far too big for her. One to watch for the future.

Senior (1 entry - 1 pass)

The other star of the day was Miller, working beautifully. Only lost marks for a bark on heelwork and a premature drop on the sendaway, possibly confused by a traffic cone that I had used to mark out the working test area. He took a command to send on and completed the test perfectly. Well done, Miller and Janet.

Thank you to Jill Kevis for asking me to judge The Bearded Collie Club Working Tests. My thanks to Jill for stewarding, her husband Ian and Teresa Brown for helping set up the rings and for keeping the paper work in order. Thank you to club for the gift at the end of the day, a very nice gesture.

We were kept busy all day testing a total of 16 dogs. 12 Primary. 3 Junior. 1 Senior. We had 7 Primary passes, and 1 Junior pass.

We had a lovely group of people enter with some lovely dogs. The main fault today for not passing was handlers having a very tight lead, but with a bit more practice I am sure next time will prove to be successful for them. Some fabulous fast recalls and great relationships between dog and handler. Several rescue Beardies took the test with very sympathetic handlers.

Hard luck story of the day was Hayley Kitchen who put in a really good effort in Senior , but sadly Barnie decided he did not want to do the send away. Good luck for next time.

Hope you all enjoyed your day as much as I did. Enjoy training your dogs and try again another time.
